Mulfaul lab mission

The Mulfaul lab investigates the role of the immune system in regulating ocular health and disease. We are currently focused on studying macrophages in the choroidal vasculature. Early during the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) increased numbers of macrophages are observed in human choroid. We aim to investigate the immune signaling events leading to infiltration of monocyte derived macrophages from the circulation into the choroid in response to AMD. We utilize iPSC-derived endothelial cells and monocytes, human donor eye tissue and rodent models of retinal degeneration to investigate cytokine responses in early AMD.
